Three members of the FOCUS socioeconomic team were fortunate to receive ACIAR Alumni Research Support Facility (ASRF) grants to conduct small research projects relevant to their studies. These projects contribute to the research impact of the FOCUS project and facilitate the capacity building of early career researchers.

Human resources development for sustainable agricultural transformation from gender perspective in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta
The general objectives of the project are to investigate the perceptions and changing roles of females in rural households in the context of agricultural transformation in the VMD and to develop recommendations to governments to create a program to women’s capacity to adapt to climate and socio-economic change.

Farmers’ adaptive capacity and agricultural transformation in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta: understanding and supporting value chain engagement
The overall aim of the project is to support value chain engagement and build the adaptive capacity of farmers in the agricultural transformation of the Mekong Delta toward developing upland crop value chain sustainability.

Managing risk for upland crop diversification: Exploring farming contract preferences of farmers and buyer companies in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam
This project will explore both farmers’ and companies’ preferences for farming contracts. It will provide useful information for farmers and companies to successfully cooperate through farming contracts as well as informing the government on how a better institutional environment to support this cooperation can be created.
